Quality Meats
57 West 58th St. (Sixth Ave.), Manhattan
Responding to Sara’s recent sighting of the Age Appropriate exiting Quality Meats, we return for further investigation. Unfortunately, it’s a Monday (the day we're banning, in future, from our research) so the place, especially the bars (there are two), are pretty quiet. But what we do see is definitely Age Appropriate and the bartender (she’s 28) confirms that the restaurant typically caters to an “older crowd.” Translation: anywhere from 30 to late 40’s and up, she says, adding that Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are best for a local scene.
Tonight, it’s really just a few couples, one man dining solo, and us at the bar. But we like the vibe so we stay for a glass of $15 Sauvignon Blanc. Two hours later, we’ve each had two more glasses of wine (in somewhat awkward, manly glasses), as well as a cheese-and-charcuterie plate and two bags of homemade BBQ chips (complimentary bar snack, until they run out). Not exactly keeping to the Bylaws, but it happens (see No. 5).
We’ll be back. But not on a Monday.
