It takes a bit of a commitment to get up to this rooftop—past the sidewalk ropes and the lobby doormen, down the mall-like hallway, up the elevator, through the bizarre 80's-esque purple velour lounge (note the stuffed cheetah guarding this stripperless stripclub), up the flight of stairs—but it's worth it just to see the humongous space. And there are amazing views. And palm trees.
It was pretty chill at this hour (a few groups of AA tourists, AA locals and a bunch of empty "reserved for" areas) but a 27-year-old bartender tells us it gets packed at night, especially on weekends when she says there's typically a line out the door. The good news, though, according to bartender, is that the roof is usually full of people in their early-30's, aka early AAs. The bad news, according to numerous friends, is that one trip here is plenty.
If you want to reserve a private-ish area, you gotta buy a bottle of something ($250 and up) for every six guests. Bartender warned us that happens at night too, especially to guys who want to jump the line. Hmmm. No thanks, but happy hour seems just right. Once.
