Met Roof Garden (the museum, not the opera)
1000 Fifth Ave. (82nd St.), Manhattan
Unlike the Guggenheim—where aggressive, attractive Russian emigrees-seeking-sugar-daddies line up for Art After Dark on non-summer Fridays—the Roof Garden at the Met is free (part of admission) and open to all sorts of tourists of all sorts of ages from spring to fall. It's lovely up there, especially in and around Roxy Paine's Maelstrom, and museum meandering is appropriate at any age. Bonus: They sell rooftop cocktails, too.
