Pudding Stones
1457 Third Ave. (82nd St.), Manhattan
Strategically hidden behind a bus shelter, this subdued wine bar (and we mean that in a good way) is easy to miss. We're not sure if that's good or bad (the missability) because we like the people who already found Pudding Stones: Age Appropriate (the early end of the range), men and women, couples and not, calmly drinking and laughing and enjoying themselves (and making out). The bartender let us taste a couple wines to compensate for his limited knowledge, and there was some confusion surrounding a cheese plate (first they sent out a piece of rind; second they sent out the wrong cheese; third there were grapes involved) but all in all we were content to be amongst our own kind.
They have an Upper West Side location too: 635 Amsterdam Ave. (91st St.), Manhattan.
