Mad For Chicken
314 5th Avenue (32nd St.), Manhattan
We have a memory - not a good one - of 10ish years ago when so many new restaurant had blaring music or djs or both, an excruciating, unpleasant way to eat. Entering Mad For Chicken (nee BonChon) triggered that memory. We wondered if our hearts would stop racing, if our stomach would be calm enough to accept food. But, since this restaurant is essentially a bar, a wings joint, we put aside our preconceived notions, and waited, with Heineken. Waiting is a thing you do here. We watched a bartender chop dry ice for the mini tableside "kegs" and we relaxed. Within 25 minutes (fast) we were seated at a low table in the front room. Our cripy savory combo chicken plate arrived two minutes later, contrary to the menu's promise of a 45-minute wait. Setting low expectations is a strategy we admire. Surrounding us was a mix of ages. Closer to AI on the female side and more AA for the mens. If this is an AA hangout, it's on the cusp, but that chicken is so dang delicious. Go early, bird.
