Continued from Part 7...I responded to the Friend’s text message: “Considering the cut on my face and my swollen jaw it’s hard to disagree with that sentiment. But I am curious to know what you think happened.” I wasn’t expecting a response but I did hope the words would provide a window to what was essentially assault.
Around noon she sent me a text saying, “I am sorry.”
I said, “I hope you are ok.”
She said, “I am. I hope you are too.”
I couldn’t imagine how to respond.
Friends, the beyond-Facebook kind, recommended I let her know exactly what had transpired, tell her she was lucky I didn’t call the police, push her to explain to me what happened. But what would be the point.
Before shutting down my Facebook I looked back to our correspondence to determine when we’d first been in touch. 46 days.
Then I noticed the flashing “Add as Friend.”
She’d Un-Friended me, I realized, appreciating the poetry.
I wondered how she defined the term.
